Hot Chocolate with Frozen Homemade Whipped Cream

Hot chocolate with frozen homemade whipped cream

Fact:  I am a whipped cream snob.  I do not EVER buy whipped cream out of a can.  I have a Kitchenaid mixer, and I know how to use it.  So why would I consume subpar whipped cream?  Making your own is the same price, and soooo much better.

I stumbled across the amazing combination of hot chocolate topped with frozen whipped cream purely by accident.  The one downfall to homemade whipped cream is that once you whip it, it really doesn’t last in the fridge for more than a couple days before it starts to get all runny.  I made a big batch for hot chocolate a few nights ago, and as I was sticking it into the fridge, I thought “Maybe I should see how this is in the freezer.”

I froze the whipped cream overnight, and the next evening, I put a scoop of it into my favorite hot chocolate.  It was absolutely GLORIOUS.  Like Ice cream, but lighter… and BETTER.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Hot chocolate, of course.
  • Directions:
In a large metal bowl, (a cold bowl works best) whip cold cream, vanilla and sugar until  stiff peaks form.
Make sure not to over-beat, cream will then become lumpy and butter-like.
Place in an airtight tupperware container, and freeze.  Serve over your favorite hot chocolate.
Add some sprinkles for whimsy. 😉
