Strawberry Hand Pies

I was at Target last week and I saw the most adorable little heart shaped pie press for $5.00.  Just in time for Valentine’s Day.  I knew I was going to have to take it home and do something delicious and cute with it.

I settled on Strawberry hand pies.  I used my recipe for Homemade Strawberry Jam, whipped up some pie crust, and pressed together these fabulous little pies.

Even though I’m on a diet, after I tasted a bite of one, I couldn’t resist eating the entire thing.  “They are miniature”, I told myself.  “No more calories than a pop tart”. I reasoned. Lets face it, I have never been one to resist pie in any shape or form.

While I do not know the actual calorie count on these, I do know that they were delicious and beautiful, and perfect for Valentine’s Day.  And you could fill them with anything.

Get your own miniature heart shaped pie press here.

Enjoy!

Ingredients:
Pie crust, refrigerated or homemade
Jam or preserves (I used homemade strawberry jam)
Egg Wash (1 egg + 2 T water, mixed well)
Sparkling Sugar

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375°

Roll out one of the pie crusts and use the back of the pie press to cut out hearts.  Place 1 tsp of jam in the center of one heart, and top with another heart. Press down on the pie press. Repeat until all of the pie crust is used. Make sure and cut a little slit in the middle for steam to escape.

Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sparkling sugar.

Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.  Bake for about 7 – 10 minutes or until slightly brown.
