Since I made Ultimate Rice Krispie Treats back in February, I have probably made them half a dozen more times. That’s a lot for me. Krispie Treats were a rarity in my life before I found that recipe. I thought of them as just okay. Now they are bomb.com.
I’m not sure when the idea to add peanut butter and chocolate to them popped in my head, but somewhere along the line, it finally did, and today I turned my dreams into reality.
I had a childhood friend who’s mom made peanut butter rice krispie treats with some concoction of corn syrup and peanut butter and no marshmallows. These are kind of like those, but different.
These are packed with butter, peanut butter, and so many mini marshmallows that you will have to buy two bags. Then, they are smothered with a thin layer (just the right amount) of milk chocolate.
These are amazing.
If you like chocolate and peanut butter, or if you like rice krispie treats, and especially if you like both, you are going to love, love, love these bars.
Enjoy.
Ingredients:
5 tablespoons butter
8 cups + another 2 cups of mini marshmallows
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
7 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1/2 teaspoon salt
One 12oz bag of milk chocolate chips
Directions:
Spray a 9×13 inch pan with non-stick spray. Be generous.
In a very large microwave safe bowl, place your butter, salt, and peanut butter. Microwave for 30 seconds until it starts to melt up just a little, and then add 8 cups of mini marshmallows. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until butter, peanut butter, and marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.
Add in the rice krispie cereal and mix well. Add in the remaining marshmallows while still warm and lightly press into your prepared pan. (using a spoon with a little butter on it will help you accomplish this without it sticking all over your hands.)
Melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, for 30 seconds at a time, stirring well in between to make sure chocolate doesn’t burn. This should only take 2 or 3 thirty second increments. Spread melted chocolate in a thin layer over the top of your bars.
Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares. Enjoy!
Yes, yes, yes! The photos are beyond tempting.😳 I need to go raid my pantry for cereal…
They look so good shannon! Tempting!
