Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies

Click photo to enlarge

You may have heard this story… a woman asks to buy a cookie recipe and is told that it will cost “two-fifty.” She thinks this means $2.50, but then she gets her credit card bill and finds out it is $250.00. Outraged, she spreads the recipe far and wide to try and get her money’s worth. The supposed originator of this recipe was a well known cookie company. This tale has been passed around since 1986, sometimes with the recipe originating from upscale department stores. True story? Who knows, but it’s a darn good cookie, and I’m making it for girls “chocolate dessert night” tonight with my friends. Here’s my version:

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
Two eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all purpose flour
2 1/2 cups quick oats
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking owder
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups chocolate chips
4 oz milk chocolate, grated (I use a Symphony almond/toffee bar)
2 small packages of Reeses Pieces

DIRECTIONS

1.Preheat oven to 355 degrees.

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugars. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Add flour, oats, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Stir dry ingredients into creamed butter and sugar. Add chocolate chips, grated chocolate, and Reeses Pieces.

Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 11 minutes in the preheated oven.
