Patriotic Recipes for Memorial Day and 4th of July

4th of July Juice Pops

Homemade Juice Pops for the 4th of July

A fun one to make with your kids! Plus, you control the ingredients, so you can make them with 100% juice to control the added sugar!  A festive and cute 4th of July dessert.

What You’ll Need:
Cranberry juice (I used Cran-Raspberry)
Lemonade
Blue sports drink, like Gatorade or Powerade
Popscicle Sticks (Fred Meyer, $2.99)
Paper Cups (Dixie size is best,  but any size will work)

Directions:
Line your paper cups on a baking tray.  Fill each one 1/3 full with cranberry juice.  Put it the freezer.  Check on it every 20 minutes or so, and when a thin layer of ice has formed over the top, push popscicle sticks through the center of each cup.  Don’t worry if they aren’t straight, you can fix them during the next layer.

When the cranberry juice has frozen, add a layer of lemonade, and put the cups back in the freezer.  If your sticks aren’t straight, wait until the cups have frozen some, and go reposition them.

When the lemonade is frozen, add the Gatorade.  Let freeze for several hours before serving.  If they don’t just pop out of the cup, they will easily “peel” out by tearing the paper on the side of the cup.

Enjoy!
