Probably not too many people would bother to put a “recipe” for Rice Krispie Treats on their blog, because the recipe is widely available on every box of Rice Krispie cereal.  Hell, it’s even on the back of the box of the Fred Meyer brand “Krispie Rice.”

But this, this is not a regular rice krispie treat.

It is so much more than a rice krispie treat.

For starters, it has like quadruple the amount of marshmallows.  Some melted, some just kind of partially melted in the warm mixture.

They are ooey gooey amazing delicious and very, very messy rice krispie treats.  There is nothing dried out about these.

I am fairly confident that my 3 year old son would have eaten this entire pan if I hadn’t taken them away from him before he made himself sick.

Next time you need a snack for t-ball, or any kid friendly snack, make these.  Trust me. You’ll never make the boring regular ones again.

Recipe from Cookies and Cups.

Ingredients:
5 tablespoons butter
8 cups + another 2 cups of mini marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Spray a 9×9 inch pan with non-stick spray and line it with a foil or parchment paper sling.  Spray again.

In a very large microwave safe bowl, place your butter, salt, and 8 cups of mini marshmallows.  Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until butter and marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.

Add in the rice krispie cereal and mix well.  Add in the remaining marshmallows while still warm and lightly press into your prepared pan. (using a spoon with a little butter on it will help you accomplish this without it sticking all over your hands.)

Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares. Enjoy!

    1. Heck, I always use a whole stick of butter and about 5-6 cups of marshmallows because I want my treats to NOT be crispy, but more sweet and gooey and buttery. I hate the original recipe. People say I make the best ones they have ever eaten.

      1. The salt is what makes these the best, IMO. I always used extra mallows & butter in mine, too, but finding this recipe with the added salt was a game changer for me. These are the BOMB!!

    2. I’m super picky and hate dry rice Krispy treats and my daughter normally doesn’t even like any. Everyone LOVED these. Very soft and gooey and the little bit of salt balances. Awesome!

  1. Awesome recipe!! Thank you! I added cinnamon to the dry rice krispys before adding to marshmallows. Yummo!

  2. I do a no fail double batch recipe.
1 standard size box Rice Krispies
    1 stick butter(8 TBSP)
    2 bags mini marshmallows
The two things I really like about this recipe are…
No leftover marshmallows or Rice Krispies to dry out.
The little bit of extra butter and marshmallow protects you from “dry” treats.
( I definitely recommend REAL! butter.)

    1. Have you tried adding the salt (in her recipe)?? That’s what puts these over the top!! I add it even I use salted butter😁

  3. My granddaughter and I love this version. You can definitely taste the difference with the salt and extra marshmallows. Today we made a rice krispie and cocoa krispie version. There is no such thing as a bad krispie treat, but these are especially gooey and yummy. Thanks!

  4. This is the most perfect recipe for Rice Krispie Bars. I’ve come back to it time and time again, and they’re just awesome.

  5. These are the BEST! This is the only recipe I use for cereal treats. I’ve also made them with Fruity Pebbles in place of Rice Krispies. 😋 so good!

    1. Yes same! Pre Covid these (the fruity pebbles treats) were my go-to potluck dish contribution!! In all honesty, I’m not certain which ones I enjoy more; the ones made with fruity pebbles or Rice Krispies! Haha

  6. This recipe but use cocoa crispies – generic work fine- and add a bag of Caramel chips , don’t forget that whole stick of salted butter and 2 bags of mellows! Divine
