Apple Crumb Pie

Apple Crumb PieThis is one of my favorite and most popular pies.  I love it because it’s so simple.  You only have to make one crust, and the crumble topping is absolutely delicious. It’s the perfect compliment to the tart granny smith apples.

Sometimes simple is really the best.  I love to top this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  It’s the perfect throw together dessert for a weeknight or for a special occasion.

Ingredients:
1 9 inch pie crust (here’s my favorite recipe)

For the pie filling
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons all purpose flour

Crumb topping:
2 1\2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup unsalted butter (room temp)
1/2 cup plus 2 1/2 tablespoons AP flour
Directions:
Prepare your pie crust and place, unbaked, in the bottom of a 9 inch pie pan.

Preheat your oven to 375°.

Peel and slice your apples.  Place them into a large bowl and mix with sugar, flour, and cinnamon and dump inside your prepared crust.

Now make the crumb topping. Mix together the butter, sugar, flour, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon, using your clean hands until it forms a crumble topping. Crumble over the top of the pie.

Bake for 60 minutes until golden and enjoy.
